How clear financial goals help you stay away from anxiety, fear and jealousy?
Staying in a large apartment complex, in the IT hub of India, Bangalore and being a finance professional, I meet many people from across the country.
During one such meeting, one of my friends said, “It is normal for a person to feel jealous and if they say they are not, they are lying.”
This sentence really hit me and it made me think deeper. We as human beings have lots of emotions related to money, both positive (self-esteem, belongingness, security etc.) as well as negative (ego, fear, jealousy, insecurity etc.). When we have a clear goal in mind, that is to say when we understand why we need money and why it is important for us, we will be the happiest person when we achieve our goal.
But when we don’t know what we want to do with the money we have earned, we start following others…where people are going for a holiday, which car he or she owns, which phone someone has etc. and that is when the problem occurs. Comparisons and jealousy will not let us enjoy our own wealth. Material things cannot give us permanent happiness. A simple thing, we all understand but no one has time to reflect upon it because we are busy watching what others are doing and tend to focus less on what we need to do.
Last but not the least, it is really important for us to understand our own journey and not to follow others blindly.
